MEET THE JUDGE
Judge Julia Maldonado is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is the most senior judge on the family court bench in Harris County, Texas. She is a graduate of University of Houston-Downtown with a BBA in Accounting and a JD from Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law.
Judge Maldonado has been practicing for over 17 years in the areas of Family, Criminal, and Probate law. She has run for a variety of offices, and after many years of aspiring to public office, was elected Judge of the 507th Family Court in the 2016 general election. Most recently, she ran in a special election for the Place 9 judge of the Texas Supreme Court but lost in the special general election on November 8, 2022. While 77% of her Harris County cases are in criminal law, she is well-respected in the family law community.
Judge Maldonado was born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico and has been a United States citizen for almost fifty years. She is proud to call Houston her hometown. She is a mother to two adult sons, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.

Judge Maldonado was the administrative judge for the Harris County family courts until 2022. According to the Harris County District Clerk website she has handled 570 Civil/Family cases and 1,945 Criminal case in Harris County since being licensed. That said, we are not including cases in other counties, or those cases filed under another attorney’s bar number which can be the case when working as an associate.
