Judge Janice Berg – 247th
MEET THE JUDGE
Judge Janice Berg has presided over the 247th Court since January 1, 2019. She ran for re-election and won on November 8, 2022. Her current term ends in 2026.
Judge Berg earned a B.S. from Columbia University in 2003 and a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center in 2008. During her eight years of private practice, she has represented clients in not only the Houston area, but also in the Texas Courts of Appeals and at the Texas Supreme Court.
Judge Berg believes that children need happy, healthy parents, but those parents do not necessarily have to be married. Being raised by a single mother, Judge Berg understands the impact on children of divorce and seeks to minimize impact to the children. She is committed to providing equal treatment to all litigants, regardless of their sexual orientation, race, religion, or immigration status.

She has a dog named Tag, who is 13 years old. She is a member of several groups such as Anti-Defamation League’s Glass Leadership Institute, Civil Rights Committee and Associate Board. She also travels to D.C. to lobby for increased voting rights protections on ADL’s behalf and refugee programs.
According to the Harris County District Clerk website she has handled 116 Civil/Family cases and 1 Criminal case in Harris County since being licensed. That said, we are not including cases in other counties or those cases filed under another attorney’s bar number which can be the case when working as an associate.
